Have you been putting off cleaning your shower?

Most people fail to clean their shower regularly, but experts say you should be cleaning it at least once a week. Stubborn marks and suspicious stains can make cleaning your shower a daunting prospect.

But it doesn’t have to be. With a bit of knowledge and the right technique, cleaning your shower can be a breeze.

Don’t worry, we have your back. Read on for our 5 DIY shower cleaning tips for spotless results.

1. Grout and Tiles

Clean tiles and grouting can make a world of difference. These are some of the easiest to spot areas if they aren’t clean. An easy way to get great, immediate results is to use a 50/50 water and white vinegar solution. Use a cloth to wipe down the tiles themselves.

For the more difficult to reach grooves and grouting between the tiles, use a toothbrush. If there are tough stains, try mixing baking soda with water into a paste and apply this to the area. You’ll be amazed what baking soda can do!

2. Streak-Free Glass

Just like your windows, getting rid of streaky marks on your shower glass can seem impossible. Again, a 50/50 solution of water and white vinegar is the solution you need. It’ll clear through any residue and grime.

For easy use, mix up enough solution to put into a spray bottle. It’ll allow you larger, more controlled coverage. Let it soak into the grime then wipe away. You can also use a microfibre cloth to buff and dry off the glass once rinsed for extra shine.

3. Sparkling Showerheads

Over time, you will notice limescale build-up on your showerhead. This can cause water flow and pressure to decrease the more it builds up. Limescale is easy to remove with acidic liquids like lemon juice or white vinegar.

Unscrew your shower head and put it into a container. Pour the lemon juice or vinegar until you’ve covered the face. Let it soak for 30 minutes to an hour. Once soaked, remove and rinse it off and wipe away the residual limescale. It’ll look brand new!

4. Chrome Fittings

To make your chrome fittings sparkle and shine like the day you installed them, use lemon juice. Its acidic properties will cut through the grime and water scum.

Cut a lemon in half and rub it onto the fittings like you would a cloth or a sponge. Work the juice into all the problem areas, nooks, and crannies. Then rinse away the juice with cold water for immediate results.

5. Use a Squeegee

A good tip for preventing watermarks and smears in your shower is to use a squeegee. They are cheap, and you can get them from any DIY store or online.

After you’ve showered, use it to wipe down your shower walls and doors to remove the excess water. This will leave tiles free from watermarks and glass clear and smudge-free!
