The kitchen is the hub of the home. It’s the place where your family can meet, make meals, and even eat. For that reason, you’ll want to keep your kitchen as clean as possible.

One of the areas that attract the most dirt and germs is the kitchen sink. When you consider what comes into contact with your sink on a daily basis, you’ll want to up your sink cleaning game.

But how exactly do you go about sink cleaning? Here’s how to clean a kitchen sink the correct way.

What You’ll Need to Clean Your Kitchen Sink

You may think that you need harsh chemicals to ensure your sink is at its most hygienic, however, it’s possible to clean a kitchen sink using the following:

  • A mild dish soap
  • A soft sponge
  • An old toothbrush
  • Lemon
  • Baking soda
  • White vinegar
  • Table salt

You may also want to use olive oil or lemon oil too.

How to Clean a Kitchen Sink

Start off by completely emptying your kitchen sink. This means ensuring there are no dishes or scraps of food left inside. Then, clear your strainer of all particles of food.

Mix your dish soap with warm water in a bowl. Then, dip your sponge into the water and rub the basin with the solution.

If your sink is particularly greasy or thick with grime, use an old toothbrush to scrub the drain cover.

How to Clean Tough Stains

If that’s not enough to lift the grease and grime off, it’s time to start using baking soda. This will scrub the sink’s surface but is still gentle enough for use on porcelain as well as stainless steel.

To use baking soda, simply sprinkle it onto your sink and use a cloth or sponge to rub it in. Use a circular motion to do this and follow the grain if rubbing it into stainless steel.

Carry on scrubbing the whole of the sink to remove all stains and residue. Once you’ve done this, rinse the entire sink with white vinegar. This will make the baking soda bubble, making it easier to rise off. Next, rinse the sink with water.

For the removal of seriously stubborn stains, sprinkle some table salt onto the affected area, then cut a lemon in half and use the cut end of the lemon to scrub in the salt to the stain. Once you’ve finished, completely rinse your sink.

If you have lime spots, dip your cloth in white vinegar and then dab it onto the spot. Leave for a few minutes and then rinse off.

How to Make Your Sink Sparkle

To make sure your sink shines, use a drop of olive oil for stainless steel sinks or lemon for porcelain. Dab this onto a soft cloth and rub it into the sink. Finally, wipe away any excess oil using a clean cloth.
